| Sowing time: | Indoors 6-8 weeks before planting out |

| Sowing depth: | 12mm (½in) deep |
Sow indoors and transplant for the best crops. Sprouts improve in quality and grow best during cool or even lightly frosty weather; sow so that your plants will begin to mature when the weather is cool. Plants set out in late spring to early summer in most areas grow satisfactorily and mature high-quality sprouts when the fall weather begins to cool. Outdoors sow in a seed bed in early to mid spring, thinly 12mm (½in) deep in rows 23cm (9in) apart. If the soil is dry, water well and allow to drain before sowing.
Transplant when approx. 15cm (6in) tall, allowing 60-80cm (2-2.5ft) between plants. Plant firmly, the soil should be well limed and in good heart, with plenty of well rotted compost etc., preferably from a previous crop. Before planting rake in 3oz/sq yd of a balanced fertilizer. Water in dry weather.
When the sprouts start to form, pinch out the growing point to assist development. To avoid the danger of Clubroot grow your Brassicas (Cabbages, Sprouts, Cauliflowers etc.) in a different site each year so that they only occupy the same spot once in four years.
