| Sowing depth: | 20mm (¾in) |
Sow where they are to flower in rows 30cm (12in) apart in well cultivated soil which has been raked to a fine tilth. Thin out seedlings to 15cm (6in) apart. They will grow in most soils but prefer poor dry soils and full sun.
They can also be sown under glass in early spring at a temperature of 13-15C (55-60F) transplanted singly into 7.5cm (3in) pots.
If sown indoors, gradually acclimate to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost.
The leaves taste like watercress, the flowers add a spicy touch to salads and the green seeds can be chopped and used with parsley as a garnish or made into a substitute for capers.
