Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed sowing mix in pots or trays. Do not cover the seed. Place in a propagator or warm place, and keep at a constant temperature of around 24 to 27C (75 to 80F). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the sowing mix moist but not waterlogged; germination will usually take 15 to 60 days.
When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3 inch) pots or trays. When well grown, pot on into 15cm (6 inch) pots. Gradually acclimatize young plants to outdoor conditions for 10 to 15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 15 to 20cm (6 to 8 inches) apart, or plant into baskets and containers.
For best results, provide a rich, light, well to drained soil in full sun or part shade.
Dust-like seeds. To open, hold over a sheet of white paper, cut along three sides of inner pack and carefully open out flat. Tap the packet gently to dislodge seed.
