| Sowing depth: | 3mm (1/8in) |
Sow in a good moist seed compost. Seal in a polythene bag after sowing and place in darkness until the seedlings show their first signs of germination, which can take 10-21 days or more, at 60-68°F (15-20°C). HIGHER TEMPERATURES CAN PREVENT GERMINATION. On germination move to a well lit place shaded from strong sunlight. Remove the polythene bags once most have germinated.
After about 3 weeks most will have developed their first true leaf. At this stage transplant individually to 7.5cm (3in) pots. Grow on cool and well lit, and in mid spring, when the weather is mild, acclimatize to outdoor conditions and plant out 30cm (12in) apart.
Prefers full sun and a moist well drained soil. Water in dry weather and stake if necessary.
Harmful if eaten.
