Sow in a good seed compost. Germination usually takes 6-10 days at 24C (75F).
Transplant when large enough to handle into 7.5cm (3in) pots and then 13cm (5in) pots before planting 1m (3ft) apart in the greenhouse border, frames or cloches, when all risk of frost is gone.
Pinch out the growing point after 5 leaves have been formed. Hand pollinate by placing a male flower inside a female bloom. Female flowers have a swollen part at the base of the bloom. Days to maturity: 65.
