Fertilizer - Tomato & Vegetable 5-6-6 |
Superb flavored beefsteak tomato. Large, flattened, ribbed fruits can attain huge size. Meaty and ideal for sandwiches and salads. Crops heavily throughout the season.
These seeds have been carefully chosen for their popularity and ability to grow well in the North American climate.
| Sowing time: | Sow indoors 6-8 weeks before last spring frost for transplanting outdoors after all risk of frost is past |

Sow in pots of moist seed sowing mix and cover with a 1.5mm (1/16in) layer of sowing mix or vermiculite. Place in a propagator or warm place, and keep at a constant temperature of between 24-27C (75-80F). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the mix moist but not waterlogged; germination will usually take 7-10 days.
Pot on in individual 3in pots when large enough to handle. When the plants have reached about 8in tall they should be transplanted outdoors, either under plastic for protective cropping or into the open ground when all danger of frost has passed. Also suitable for planting in large containers or growing bags outdoors in very sheltered sites. In very warm areas, cropping can be extended well into autumn by planting late crops in June-July.
Keep plants well watered and feed with potash (tomato feed) once first flowers have set fruit. The tall indeterminate varieties will need strong supports.
