At first glance this delightful Brachycombe may seem like any other, but on closer inspection you will soon discover its flowers are quite unique. Each bushy plant produces masses of attractive violet-blue, star shaped flowers with unusual inwardly curled petals. Flowers all summer in borders or containers.
Height: 20-25cm (8-10in).
| Sowing time: | February to April. |
|---|---|
| Sowing depth: | Lightly cover seed with a sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. |
Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Place in a propagator or warm place, and keep at a temperature of between 18-21C (65-70F). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination will usually take 7-21 days. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays.
Gradually acclimatise young plants to outdoor conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, 23-30cm (9-12in) apart, or transplant into containers.
For best results, provide a light, well-drained soil in full sun.
