Easy and fun to grow, producing a mixture of decorative fruits, with smooth and unusual spiky skins. An annual climber making an intriguing and decorative border or container plant. Pick fruits and use indoors in autumn displays lasting for up to 3 months.
Caution: Fruits are bitter and not edible.

It is important to sow the seeds on their edge, otherwise they may rot if sown flat. Protect emerging seedlings from direct sunlight to avoid scorching.
Pot on individual seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots of compost and keep barely moist to avoid stem rot. Maintain a temperature of about 20C (68F). Plant out 30cm (12in) apart once frost risk passed.
Feed with potash fertiliser once fruiting commences and water and mulch regularly. Pick fruits and use in decorative displays as they will last for up to 3 months. Prefers well drained, moist, rich soil in full sun.
