Modern breeding has resulted in a much improved miniature red delphinium. Dwarf, compact, bushy plants bloom in only 20 weeks from sowing, with tubular orange-red flowers, lasting over a long period. Ideal for something different in containers, bedding or border as an annual or short lived perennial in zone 8.
| Sowing time: | March to June. |

Sow in pots or trays of moist seed sowing mix. Cover with a fine sprinkling of vermiculite or sowing mix. After sowing, seal the container in a plastic bag and place on the bottom shelf of a fridge for 3 weeks. Check regularly to monitor germination. Then, move to an optimum temperature of about 15C (59F), keeping the surface of the sowing mix moist but not waterlogged.
When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3in) pots or trays. Place in a cool position to overwinter before planting out the following spring. Provide a rich, well-drained soil in full sun with protection from wind, spacing plants by 60cm (2ft).
Harmful if eaten.
