Description

A colourful mixture of attractive Bottle Brush blooms. Very unusual in appearance, sure to add interest to borders or containers. If planted in a sheltered spot, this Australian native is hardy in most areas. If you live in a frost prone area, protect under glass in winter.

Sowing Instructions

Sowing time:March to April

Sow thinly on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Do not cover the seed. Keep soil moist at all times, stand container in a tray of water to maintain this. Keep at a temperature of between 15-20C (59-68F). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination will usually take 1-3 months. Ensure good air circulation, especially as seedlings begin to emerge. Alternatively, grow in containers of soil-based potting mix. Apply a balanced liquid fertiliser monthly and reduce watering in winter. Plants may need winter protection in more northern regions.

Growing Instructions

When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into 7.5cm (3 inch) pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise young plants to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 2m (6 feet) apart.

Aftercare Instructions

For best results, provide a moist, well-drained soil in full sun, preferably against a warm, sunny wall.
