Eryngium leavenworthii
Eryngium leavenworthii
Apiaceae Sea Holly

An attractive annual originating from the North American prairies. This species has the unusual characteristic, unlike other Eryngiums, to flower quickly from seed in the first year. Each plant produces spectacular spiky glaucous foliage which changes to a rich purple color on the cones and bracts, followed by a reddish-purple tinge in the fall. Ideal for adding structure to annual borders, as well as making a decorative, long-lasting cut flower. Germination: 5-10 days, 65-70F. Well-drained soil. 20-36in.
