This famous Channel Islands' heirloom kale makes a tall, straight stem, some 6ft tall, topped with a rosette of edible leaves. The stems, when mature in the fall, are cut, carved and varnished to make attractive walking sticks. Plants may be left to grow a second season in zones 7-10 to run to seed or increase in height to over 9½ft. 180 days.
